For decades, the human kingdom of Gaiapeia has been in conflict with the fae living in the surrounding lands. There's no end in sight - in fact, an outright war seems more likely with each passing day.
You are the child of Lady and Sir Grahm, a noble family who has been serving the crown for generations. Eager to follow in your father's footsteps, you have been training for years to become a knight worthy of being Prince Az'Lean's Champion - his right hand, his closest confidant, the one who protects his life from the growing danger of the fae.
When the time finally comes and you are chosen for the position, it's a dream come true. You couldn't be happier, but just one day later on your 21st birthday, a terrible truth is revealed to you.
You are a changeling - a fae child that was smuggled into a human family with only one purpose: to gain the prince's trust and use it against him.
A war between humans and fae is slowly but surely brewing, and the outcome depends entirely on your choices.
Will you choose a side or try to make peace?
Will you embrace what you are or reject it?
And who will you let in on your secret?
Customize the appearance of your MC, play as non-binary, female, or male and romance whoever you like however you like, including the option of asexual or queer-platonic relationships.
Enjoy the story without having to worry about stats - you will be a competent knight no matter what. There is no failure or success, only different choices and their outcomes.
Shape your personality, and your trustworthiness, with your actions. How other characters feel about you will change depending on how they perceive you.
Pick a side early on, play the long con, or refuse to make a choice at all. There are multiple split paths that will feature the same romancable characters - but their relationship to you might vary greatly (including villain romances).
Vynn (nb): A fellow knight and your best friend
Unlike you, Vynn isn't a knight by choice and doesn't care much for fighting. They'd much rather be a bard if they could, seeing as they love playing the lute, spinning epic tales, and generally being a source of levity. They are fiercely loyal and good-natured, though there is that bit of resentment that will never quite leave their heart.
Az'Lean (m): The prince and the one you are sworn to protect
At a glance, Az'Lean is the very picture of a fairytale prince: charming, chivalrous, and powerful. He is an excellent fighter, loves animals, and prefers to be treated like an equal. Anyone who cares to look will soon notice the darkness lurking beneath that shining exterior, festering ever since the death of his mother.
Maeve (f): A powerful dryad and your teacher on the ways of the fae
Maeve is usually playful and soft, though she can get eerily intense at times. As much as she cares about decorum and courtly things, she finds joy in the simplest pleasures and easily turns into a giggly mess. For all her humour, you can never quite tell if she is being serious. Sometimes it feels like she's just playing with you.
Thianne (f): A sorceress and one of Az'Lean's most trusted advisors
Thianne is intelligent and hard-working, though sometimes at the expense of her own well-being. Although she comes across as abrasive and rude, she is always willing to help those who need it. Her dry sense of humour and brutal honesty have endeared her to just as many people as they have made her enemies.
Lester (m): A half-fae and servant in the castle
As with most half-fae, Lester's presence isn't entirely welcome, and his reasons for being here seem deeper than he lets on. Lester is known for his mischief and his crude humour, often pulling pranks that border on malicious. Despite the way he presents himself as laid-back and uncaring, it's clear that there's a lot he isn't opening up about.
This story contains potentially triggering content. There will be graphic depictions of violence, death, discrimination, body-image issues, mental illness (including panic attacks, suicidal thoughts and paranoia), discussions of genocide, war, and terminal illness.
Discretion is advised. More warnings might be added at a later date.

How many chapters will this game have?
Right now, the plan is 15 chapters for the main story, plus 2 epilogue chapters.

Honestly I really love this game. I adore the characters and the story. The world building is also very engaging. I'm usually bored by highly detailed world building but that's not the case here at all! :) But one thing that kind of discourages me from playing is the lack of customization for your own character.
One thing that makes text-based games different and better imo is the amount of customization it could offer and this could help the viewer really get into the game. Something as little as choosing what your weapon is could make the story a lot more immersing. But, although not severely, I feel like this game does lack that. There have been times were I went "I wish I could choose that, or I wish I could change that dialogue option. ".
I also do wish that I could customise my character's personality and behavior further directly instead of having to choose choices that lead to those personality traits. Choosing not to ask a question or being able to choose your dialogue more frequently and not just when it matters would also be amazing. It's just the feeling of making the small decisions is what counts imo.
I'm sorry, my english isn't very good and the creator probably won't see this. I just wanted to give my own opinion :). This game is amazing either way.
Your English is great, and I did in fact see your feedback! Thank you for your comment, I like that there are things you enjoy but also things you were able to critique. These sorts of comments are very helpful to improve my writing.
Some other readers have offered similar criticisms before. I completely acknowledge that more choices/customisation is something a lot of people would like, but at this point I probably won't change any of that for this particular story.
One reason is simply because I'm just too far into it at this point and would rather finish it than start changing things. It would simply be too much effort. Another reason is that I honestly prefer having an MC that is a bit more pre-established and not a complete blank slate. I asked the members of my Patreon about their opinion regarding that at some point, and the majority agreed or didn't care, so I decided to leave it like that. For me as a writer, it's easier to take something like character development into consideration if the MC is not too variable, but I get that readers have their own imagination and expectations.
In the end, it all comes down to how much time I have. I think the reasons why most IFs are eventually abandoned or take a decade to get finished is because writers bite of more than they can chew. Still, your feedback is very valuable, and I'll take it into consideration for future chapters/projects!
This was amazing to play! I can't wait to see future updates!! The worldbuilding is AMAZING, and I love how complicated all of the characters are. As a writer, this was a piece of art that I'll want to keep redoing over and over again.

i love this authors writing and i will be drawing the characters in my own interpretation the moment i get the freetime to do so bc i love them so much
vynn is my favorite with lester my second fav, i NEED to know what happens ; i was even talking to my parents about this one bc its just SO good, I wasnt expecting to love it so much but the scene where the mc travels to tell their parents and their best friend makes me cry every single playthrough even if im only skimming cuz i read it already, to the maker u have gained a forever follower and please never stop making these, they inspire me to come up with all sorts of ideas (there isnt enough time in the world for me to do them with college tho:( i wouldnt be surprised if when i drew my fav characters i add them to my lockscreen bc they inspire me:)
ofc dont overwork urself and take all the time u need for this, ur mental halth is more important than anything work or hobby wise, but just kno im cheering u on always in the back of my head:)

I just started, but i would be cool if your weapon wasn't chosen by by the "what you think a knight should be" options. I went through all the choices of what I thought a knight should be, and the one choice I didn't agree with had the weapon I wanted which was the raipeir. I wanted to go with the Calm options, because thats the kind of character i was leaning towards, and you'd be tought along side Vynn, but I dont want a spear.
I think the new update to v8.2 deleted my saves? I could've sworn I created a save file. I launched both versions and no saves. Good thing I wasn't too far in lol -v-
All of my saves still work, so I'm not sure what the issue is. Sorry, I wish I could help!

So much lore!!! I loved scenes about gods. And the cliffhanger is so so good. Im definitely do not trust new gods and new religions in such settings, they are just way to control opinions of masses. The half fae lady made me and MC really think about their lives in today settings. That was great.
But you know what else is great, who else is? Vynn. I'm totally in love.
Also I tried dance with Lester, that was really amusing.

Hey! super excited to be reading through chapter 8- but one mild thing I noticed near the start of the chapter (or at least, near the start of 8A; with an MC that utilizes fire magic) was that the options for practicing your weapons are a bit wonky.
Opting for archery practice ends up displaying the text that implies the MC was practicing defensive work. While choosing to practice defense leads to text that says the MC practiced archery.

I am absolutely loving this; just started reading! I'm in the second chapter (I think) just after the tournament, when you go to visit your horse. The horse is described as "chestnut" but she also has a "black mane." FYI, this would make her a bay, not a chestnut! To keep it consistent, you could just describe her mane as "red" or simply call her a bay mare instead of a chestnut.
Oh i think I might've found a bug, maybe. I went back and chose to tell the prince after coming back from Grahm territory. After the conversation in Az'lean's room, when bumping into [REDACTED] the game has me telling her that he knows in order to avoid the possibility of blackmail, but, unless I missed it, I never told her anything? I've been skimming over some parts to get back up to the point I was in an earlier save but I don't think I've missed that conversation if it really happened. Just wanted to let you know in case it does end up being a bug.

Without saying too much: yes, unless you decide to fully support the fae (because it wouldn't make much sense for a spy to reveal themself)

Hello hello, pretty good so far. Was just wondering if our main weapon is defined by what we get after the initiation or if we have freedom to switch later.
If our main weapon is indeed locked to the one we get, are there different weapons to get based on our choices during the test or would we always get a spear? I'd love to play with a sword so I'd appreciate any info on this subject.
Your main weapon (and magic) depends on the mentor you get. There are opportunities to train with different weapons/learn different magic later on, but you'll always keep your favoured weapon.
If you want to get a sword, you can get a sword and shield from Chev Minne, or a rapier from Sir Asperame. Let me know if you explicitly want to know what choices you need to pick for that.
Oh I'd love to know what choices I need to make for both of those. So far I've been making calm and stoic choices and I'm curious to see how different I should play to get other mentors, so if it's no trouble I'd appreciate a little guiding, both for weapons and magic, which I'm sure some other people might find useful.
Just a question though, will I still get the chance to play as a stoic character while having other NPC's acknowledge that, or will I be stuck with whatever personally my choices before the timeskip give me, both for inner monologue and in other characters' minds?
Regarding your question, the MC's personality can change throughout the entirety of the story, you're never locked into only one set of personality traits. Though of course if you have an overwhelming amount of points leaning towards 'stoic', it might take quite a few decisions that go against that before it leans more towards 'emotional'.
I'll keep this guide as brief and spoiler free as possible. There are four possible mentors:
Lady Westwale: She'll teach you how to use a spear, as well as water divination. To impress her, you should 1) observe and remain silent, 2) express that your ideal knight is calm, 3) work together, and 4) remain steadfast.
Sir Asperame: He'll teach you how to use a rapier, as well as fire magic. To impress him, you should 1) volunteer to go first, 2) express that your ideal knight is passionate, 3) work together, and 4) forget dodging.
Chev Minne: They'll teach you how to use a sword and shield, as well as healing magic. To impress them, you should 1) observe and remain silent, 2) express that your ideal knight is tough, 3) work alone, and 4) remain steadfast.
Sir Stahlvart: He'll teach you how to use twin daggers, as well as illusion magic. To impress him, you should 1) volunteer to go first, 2) express that your ideal knight is flexible, 3) work alone, and 4) forget dodging.
The second choice is the most important one.

hi. I love this game. And I love the representation.I've never gotten to play a game with the option of QPRs before and it makes me feel so seen, being able to love the characters in game the way my aroace self actually would (though I haven't gotten to the actual partnership yet.)
There is one problem though. I'm not sure if it's my ad blocker or something, but the save files don't seem to work. They disappear every time I close the page, so that has hindered my progress quite a bit.

There really aren't enough games (or stories in general) that have QPRs, or even asexual relationships, as on option. I'm ace myself, and there have been many times where I lost interest in otherwise great games because of it. It's usually all about pursuing a certain character, but then you suddenly don't get any choices when it comes to actually establishing what your partnership with them looks like! Very frustrating, and something I absolutely want to avoid. It's important to me that it is entirely up to the player to decide what their partnership looks like.

Romancing Az'lean is so angsty and I love it
This is a beautifully written, highly entrancing game. I was completely engrossed in the story, and I was immensely disappointed when it inevitably ended. Vynn is a sweetheart, and my favorite character, and I cannot wait to see what fate awaits us in the future. Keep up the excellent work!

Wonderful setting, I'm glad to be knight AND to be fae. It's funny that people already calling humans colonizers. Fae aren't your cool friends, didn't your elders teach you? Anyway, I hope for reasonably morbid themes. Stealing the babies, deception and truly otherworldly moral compass. Duty and diligence. I guess we'll see.

Wanted to romance Az'lean but my mc is basically his twin but shorter and i feel like i am on Vynn's route
